The Owner + Founder

I am Kristel. I am a mother of three. It was just about a month after I gave birth to our third child, when I launched Kay Inay in September 2020. I work full time as an Analyst, while also being a part-time student. I love to cook and bake. I enjoy making and preparing food for my family. I’m very hands on when it comes to managing our household because it can easily get crazy at times.

The Business Idea

There’s quite a story of how Kay Inay came to be. It’s made up of ideas and inspirations triggered by certain life events through the years.

I thought of a gift box company during my last pregnancy. Being pregnant for the fourth time, having experienced pregnancy loss and after several bouts of postpartum blues through the years, I gained more appreciation of the strength motherhood gave me. I wanted to dedicate gifts to all my fellow mothers,  especially my mom and grandma (hence the name Kay Inay) - gifts to show recognition and gratitude for all their sacrifices, and gifts that will also spoil them. Thus, most of our gift boxes are designed for pampering. But, it doesn’t make Kay Inay exclusively for moms though. It could be for any loved-one who you wanted to show your love to, at least through gifts.

Additionally, I wanted to support local businesses to a whole new level during the tough economic times brought by the pandemic, helping them promote their products through gift boxes. However, I want to be a gift company not only focused on profits. Inspired by a social enterprise I got connected with few years ago, and learning more about corporate social responsibility while doing a project for a course, I wanted to make an impact by being committed to our social and environmental responsibility - shown in the way we handle our business and the way we give back to the community. I may not be able to address it all and it may not be perfect, but I want to contribute (in my own way) in making the world a better place, especially for the future generations.

Starting the Business

It was kind of overwhelming having a newborn and starting up a business (what am I thinking right?!). But I do enjoy handpicking and curating locally made products to share with you. I didn’t expect how much impact it has on me, especially when the postpartum hormones kick in. There’s something special about putting these items together that I find it very therapeutic. I put a lot of thought and love on it, and I hope you feel that when you receive one of our gift boxes.

Gift Boxes’ Names

This journey is very personal to me, so all the gift boxes’ names will be a tribute to the people in my life who inspire me to become better in my roles (wife, mother, daughter, etc.) and better in everything that I do. For the introductory box, it is named after our first born, Sophia, the one who made it official that I be called a mom.

I hope you can join me in this wonderful journey and I am looking forward in supporting local with you, while also supporting a good cause and being mindful of our environmental impact.

Sending love your way,
